Use this activity to define the resource requirements for resource groups in the project resource forecast. Resource requirements can be defined in three ways:
Defining resource requirements for resource forecasts ensures that only resource individuals that fulfill the defined criteria, such as skills, competencies, and certifications, are considered, reducing the risk of potential resource shortages or surpluses.
When resource groups are added to resource forecasts, the resource requirements defined in the resource groups are automatically applied to the resource forecasting record. This ensures that projects adhere to standardized requirements, improves efficiency by reusing existing requirements, and reduces the need to define project resource requirements from scratch. It also minimizes the risk of missing critical requirements, as predefined requirements in resource groups are well-established and aligned with organizational standards. These inherited resource requirements cannot be modified or deleted, maintaining the integrity of the predefined criteria. If the resource group requirements are updated, these changes are automatically reflected in the project resource forecast.
Resource requirements can also be defined specifically for forecast records, in addition to the inherited requirements from the resource group. These requirements can be defined by specifying a requirement source, requirement, operator, and a requirement value. The selected requirement source will subsequently impact the available fields and the values that can be used in those fields. These resource forecast specific resource requirements can be modified and deleted as needed.
If resource requirements are defined, the resource forecast records will indicate that these requirements exist. Existing resource requirements can include those inherited from the resource group or newly added requirements specific to the forecast. Resource requirements can be defined within the resource forecast records at the project, sub project, and activity levels.
When a resource forecast is transferred to resource planning, all resource requirements defined in the resource plan will be removed and replaced with the resource requirements defined in the transferred resource forecast.
When creating a new forecast by copying data from an existing resource forecast, the resource requirements defined in the existing forecast will also be transferred to the new forecast. When creating a new forecast by copying data from a project resource plan, the resource requirements defined in the project resource plan will also be transferred to the resource forecast.
