Assign Resource Groups to Activity

Explanation

Use this activity to add resource groups to project activities. Assigning resource groups to specific activities helps in precisely defining which resource group will carry out each activity and the amount of work required. This detailed planning allows for effective scheduling and accurate identification and control of project costs, as you can track the planned work against actual work and adjust project plans accordingly.

Planning Resource Groups

All types of resource groups (e.g., machine groups, person groups, tool/equipment groups, and crew groups) can be planned for projects. Project resource planning plays a crucial role in capacity planning across multiple projects by ensuring that resources are planned efficiently and effectively.

Multiple resource groups can be assigned to one activity. The same resource group can be assigned multiple times to the same activity by using resource criteria. It is possible to assign a resource group from the project level or sub-project level. However, in those cases, the sub-project and/or activity need to be specified since project resource planning is always done at the activity level.

Resource Costs and Capacity

Defining the cost and capacity of each resource group for the activity duration is important in planning to ensure that the project goals and deadlines can be met. Planned hours and costs are reported to the project according to the posting control setup.
