Create Maintenance Change Request Actions

Explanation

This activity explains how to create and manage Maintenance Change Request (MCR) actions, an essential process for efficient maintenance management and ensuring operational reliability. The Action tab is divided into two sections: Maintenance Origin List and Maintenance Action List, allowing detailed tracking and updates for maintenance-related changes.

Maintenance Origin List

The Maintenance Origin List allows adding details for new maintenance actions linked to specific maintenance origins. The Maintenance Origin Connection field provides options to select either Work Task or FMECA, and a description can be provided in the Origin Description field.

For Origin Keys, if the origin is a Work Task, the keys will be the Work Order No and the Work Task No, and if the origin is FMECA, the keys will be the FMECA ID and the FMECA Revision ID. Manually created MCRs do not allow input for Origin Keys, and Origin Keys created via MCR assistants cannot be modified. To specify the object for the Maintenance Change Request (MCR), select a Connection Type (Equipment, Linear Asset, or Tool/Equipment). The Object Site field dropdown appears for Equipment and Linear Assets. These fields will be enabled if the Maintenance Origin Connection is selected as "Work Task."

The Object ID dropdown displays predefined objects based on the selected connection type, allowing users to define which Object ID and Object Site the MCR applies to when selecting Work Task as the origin. Additionally, selecting the Item Class and Process Class is particularly relevant when FMECA is the origin, enabling the definition of the targeted item class and process class for the MCR.

The Progress field is automatically updated through a calculation, and further details can be added in the Note field. Once a maintenance origin connection is entered, the Add Origin and Actions command will appear. Clicking on this will open the New/Update Maintenance Change Request assistant page, allowing the selection of an existing Work Task or FMECA relevant to the equipment.

Note: To raise an MCR, an ongoing Work Task or FMECA is required.

After saving a record, fields such as Maintenance Origin Connection, Connection Type, Object Site, and Object ID become non-editable. The Impacted command group is enabled when the maintenance origin connection is linked to a FMECA or Work Task. This group highlights impacted areas such as PM Actions, Objects, Work Task Templates, PM Programs, and FMECA, providing visibility into the areas that can be probably affected by the Maintenance Change Request (MCR). MCR Origin Connections created through maintenance assistants cannot be duplicated or deleted, ensuring data integrity.

Maintenance Action List

The Maintenance Action List captures suggested changes identified by technicians during their work for a selected Maintenance Origin Connection. These changes can relate to resources, materials, work task information, or FMECA information. Technicians use this list to document actions such as adding new items, modifying existing details, or removing unnecessary elements. For example, if a work task template suggests specific resources or materials that were not used during the task, the technician can record their removal or propose a modification.

The following fields in the Maintenance Action List section will be automatically populated based on the information entered in the New/Update Maintenance Change Request assistant page when creating the maintenance origin connection in the Maintenance Origin List section.

Maintenance actions can also be manually updated for minor tasks, such as documentation updates. To add an action, enter a concise summary in the Description field (e.g., "Document Modification") and select the appropriate value for the Change Type field. Available options include New, Modify, or Delete. This helps technicians accurately record and reflect observed changes, whether they involve additions, modifications, or removals, across materials, resources, and work task information. When a maintenance action is created manually, the Action Connection field becomes non-editable. However, if the MCR is created using a MCR Assistant, this field is automatically populated.

Upon creation, the default Status field of an action is set to Preliminary. Actions progress through the statuses Preliminary, Analyzed, Rejected, Approved, and Completed. An action in Preliminary can transition to Analyzed, and from Analyzed, it may move to Rejected, Approved, or Completed. If set to Approved, the action progresses to Perform and subsequently to Completed. In the Perform status, the only allowable transition is to Completed. Maintenance Origin Connections and Maintenance Actions can only be added when the MCR is in Preliminary or In Progress status.

The Details command provides an in-depth view of the action that entered during the MCR assistant. For MCRs generated through a MCR Assistant, all fields in the Maintenance Action List are auto populated. Additionally, MCRs created via MCR Assistants cannot be duplicated or deleted, ensuring consistency.

The Maintenance Change Request Actions page provides a comprehensive list of actions defined in Maintenance Change Requests.
