This activity is used to define during which process(es) a serial number of a product should be renamed from one part number to another within a serial lifecycle group. This renaming occurs as a result of the product transitioning from one lifecycle stage to another.
To define automatic serial renaming, create a record in the Automatic Serial Rename list and enter:
The parts entered as From Part and To Part must have been connected to this serial lifecycle group.
Automatic serial renaming is registered for the process and from/to part combination. When a serial number is created or updated in the specified process for the part defined as the To Part, and an active part serial for the part defined as the From Part exists with the same serial number, that active part serial will automatically be renamed to the part serial that is created or updated for the part defined as the To Part.
