This activity defines supplier warranties on a Service Object. Keeping track of warranties provided by suppliers for a sold product/object is important to ensure that the service organization is utilizing the compensations it is entitled to when the object fails.
The supplier warranty can be defined as a collection of supplier warranty types. The supplier warranty type can be created on the Service Object by copying an existing Supplier Warranty Type Template or manually adding a warranty without a template. When a Model is associated with a Service Object, the supplier warranties defined on the Model will be copied (instantiated on) to the Service Object from the Model.
A Testpoint-Parameter combination can be added against a usage-based warranty condition to automatically update the warranty status to Closed based on the parameter measurements (usage-based means warranty condition with an Other UOM defined instead of a Duration UOM).
If the Service Object under warranty breaks/fails and needs repair, a Request can be initiated, and the warranty will be automatically applied on the Request Scope(s). However, the supplier warranty can be defined on the service object without a supplier. The supplier registered as a customer should be added to the Service Object Warranty in order for the supplier warranty to be useable on the request.
Depending on the user's choice, a supplier warranty type is added to the Service Object as part of an existing or new warranty type. If a new warranty is created, a warranty ID will be created. Removing all warranty types under a warranty will remove the warranty ID.
