Assign Main Component as Cost Base for Alternate Disassembly Component

Explanation

Alternate disassembly components are used when other than the defined disassembly component in the product structure are expected to be found during the shop order process. In order for such parts to have a standard cost (especially if standard costing is used for inventory valuation), a better estimation is to have a part cost equal to another similar disassembly component defined in a disassembly product structure. Though alternate disassembly components can be expected to replace more than one main disassembly component, only one main disassembly component can be the originator(cost base) for the cost of the respective alternate disassembly component.

This activity is used to assign a main component as a base for cost calculation for an alternate disassembly component using the Part Cost page, Alternate Disassembly Component Cost Base tab. To assign a main component as the cost base, select the desired main disassembly component and click Enable Base for Cost Calculation. If the part already has another cost base assigned on Produced Part Cost Base tab (as indicated from the Base for Cost Calculation field), but the cost needs to originate from the main disassembly component instead, then that parent part needs to be set as not a cost base by clicking Disable Base for Cost Calculation first.

The Alternate Disassembly Component Cost Base tab is a dynamic tab, that appears only when the inventory part is defined as an alternate disassembly component on the Alternate Disassembly Component or Alternate Disassembly Components pages.

Once the cost base is defined, during the Disassembly Cost Calculation process, the cost of the main disassembly component will be copied into the alternate disassembly component. It is important that both main disassembly component and alternate disassembly component have a cost template with the Cost Rollup control flag Use Cost Distribution enabled (set to True) within the cost set. Furthermore, the main component set as the cost base must receive its part cost from the Disassembly Cost Calculation process. Otherwise, the alternate disassembly component will not be included in the disassembly cost calculation, hence the part cost will not be updated.
